Materials:

·        One ball of red and one ball of white yarn

·        Spare strands of green yarn or ribbon

·        Crochet hook 3,5 (E)

·        Tapestry Needle

 

Note: This cozy was made to fit a cup of 25 cm in circumference and

10cm in height. Since it does not have any buttons, it is easily adapted

 to any larger circumference. If you wish for the cozy to fit in a taller

 cup, add an extra row of star stitches.

Instructions:

Ch 51. (Any multiple of 2 plus 1)

Row 1: With Red color, sc all sts. Turn.

Row 2: Change color. Ch 3. You are now going to work star stitch as follows:

Pull up a loop through 2^nd st from chain. Pull up a loop through the 3^rd, 4^th, 5^th, 6^th st. You will now have 6 loops on your hook. Pick up yarn and pull through all 6 loops. Ch 1 to secure. This is the first star.

           For the rest of the stars, work as follows:

Pull up a loop through the hole of the ch1. Pull up a loop through the last two strands of the star. Pull up a loop though the st of the last two strands. Pull up a loop through each of the following 3 sts. You should now have 6 sts on your hook. Pick up yarn and pull through all 6 loops.

Work star stitch until the end of row. Ch 1. Turn work.

          Row 3: Sc all sts.

          Row 4: Ch 3. Work star stitch in all sts, as described before. Ch 1. Turn work.

          Row 5: Sc all sts.

          Row 6: With Red color, work sc all sts.

          Row 7: Ch 1. Work sc all sts.

          Row 8: Change color. Ch 3. Work star stitch across the row. Ch1. Turn work.

          Row 9: Sc all sts.

          Row 10: Ch 3. Work star stitch in all sts. Ch 1. Turn work.

          Row 11: With Red color, sc all sts.

          Row 12: Ch 1. Sc all sts across the row.

          To finish up, sc the sides with red color to make it even. Weave in ends.

Take the first strand of green yarn or ribbon and with the tapestry needle, pass it over and under the stitches of the middle part crocheted with red color. Do the same with the top part.

Tie the strands in two bows above and below the handle.

… and you are done!
